“You are correct. I wish to tell a story and then I will explain what is going to happen.”
“This sounds rather ominous!”
“Not at all, Paul, it is an occasion which has been anticipated since the dawn of consciousness, the dream of mankind come true!”
“How can I add or detract from that statement, Tom? I believe I will hold all questions for the moment and let you tell us what’s on your mind. The floor is all yours. Please, spin the tale.”
“Thank you, Paul, I am grateful for your trust and this opportunity to tell our story.”
“Pardon the interruption, but you did say, our story.”
“Oh yes, it is truly our story, not just mine alone. Mine and Laiinet’s; whom I will introduce to our audience at the appropriate time. All will become clear shortly, Paul. We no longer have anything to hide. It is time for everyone to understand and hear the truth.”
“Truth and understanding are the roots of my trade, Tom, please continue.”
“Citizens of the Planet Earth, please hear me with open minds and happy hearts for I bring you a story of love and great hope! It is a bit long and convoluted but I assure you, it is of great interest to each and every one of you! The story begins over forty years ago, long before the advent of the Digicube, Digims and the common application of holographic technology. HD TV was the newest thing in communications. Computers were just beginning to become essential to the operation of everything and the internet itself was barely three decades old. The name of the company which I will mention is real but its records are unavailable and the principals involved are now deceased. I am certain, some will try to uncover the information trail, but I assure you it is long cold. Having said all of this, I shall begin.
“My childhood was no more or less than most. I worked my way through high school and college and entered the work-a-day world. Never very socially adept, I made few friends and not many of those were women. I was lonely for a friend and companionship. One evening while watching television, I saw an ad for a website that promised to find someone for anyone who would fill out a personal questionnaire and pay a fee for the service. I got on the internet and signed up. I filled out the forms, sent them in and promptly forgot I had done so.
“About ten days later I received an analysis of the questionnaire I had answered which described the basic characteristics of a person who might be compatible with me. Included were profiles of women the testing had determined might be candidates for a relationship. That evening, after work, I began reading through the ten or twelve profiles I had received. I never finished the group. The fifth one I read caught my interest and I immediately composed an email to the numbered address; they gave no names of course. Then, I waited to see if I would get a reply.
