I made some stickers on the computer that said “Forget about the Bear” and passed them out to the crew and actors with the tale, the next night at the Ghost Walk. We wore them proudly! It was our fun, private joke for the rest of the shows that year.

aka Doc Holliday and ‘Founder of the Feast’
Glenwood Springs, CO – August 2006
In the years since that fateful night I have had occasion to speak with all of the young people involved. All consider it a high point in their lives to have met Doc Holliday at midnight in the cemetery. The oldest boy bears a pretty good scar in his chest from his encounter with the barbed wire that night. He shows it proudly. I didn’t know about it ‘til I spoke with his wife before I talked with him. They all got a goodly dose of terror after they had sort of gone looking for it and it took a while to come to terms with, but as noted, now it’s a tale of great adventure; a really interesting memory for all of us.

Black Bear, American HM (Ursus americanus): a common, medium-sized bear; comes in various colors of brown as well. Given all the real danger of the grizzly bear; this is the bear that tangles most often with people. Intelligent, strong and omnivorous; the old timers knew them well. Good eating at certain times of the year and a marvelous warm pelt. I’ve seen some nice bear hide woolies. Photo: U.S. PD, H. Barrison, 02/2010 {001}
